Osteogenic Fuction of Periosteum and Periosteal Cells of Rabbit

ثبت نشده
چکیده

INTRODUCTION The periosteum may have an important function of new bone formation because of the abundant blood supply and the presence of osteoprogenitor cells. Periosteal cells have also been used for bone and cartilage formation. Though there have been many studies about the osteogenesis using periosteum, and osteogenic activity of osteoprogenitor cells such as mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs), little study has focused on the expression of osteogenic markers and the amount of osteocalcin from the cultured periosteal cells. Also, in authors’ knowledge, there has not been comparative research between periosteum transplant and periosteal cells-scaffold composite transplant in terms of osteogenic capacity. In this study, the osteogenic function of periosteal cells were evaluated by expression of osteogenic markers, and the difference of osteogenic capacity between periosteum and periosteal cells scaffold composite was studied by doing in vivo transplantation.

Effective bone engineering with periosteum-derived cells.

Bone augmentation via tissue engineering has generated significant interest. We hypothesized that periosteum-derived cells could be used in place of bone marrow stromal cells (which are widely used) in bone engineering, but the differences in osteogenic potential between these 2 cell types are unclear. Here, we compared the osteogenic potential of these cells, and investigated the optimal osteo...

The Spatiotemporal Role of COX-2 in Osteogenic and Chondrogenic Differentiation of Periosteum-Derived Mesenchymal Progenitors in Fracture Repair

Periosteum provides a major source of mesenchymal progenitor cells for bone fracture repair. Combining cell-specific targeted Cox-2 gene deletion approaches with in vitro analyses of the differentiation of periosteum-derived mesenchymal progenitor cells (PDMPCs), here we demonstrate a spatial and temporal role for Cox-2 function in the modulation of osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiation o...

Evaluation of Osteogenic Potential of Cultured Periosteum Derived Cells -Preliminary Animal Study-

Periosteum is a source of osteoprogenitor cells and some investigators advocated the effective use of periosteum as a grafting material for the repair of bone and joint defects. In the present study, we showed bone formation induced from cultured periosteum-derived cells (CPDC) in the rat calvarial defect model. Periosteum taken from a rat tibia was immediately placed in culture medium with 10%...

Experimental study on healing of long bone defects treated with fibrin membrane enriched with platelet growth factors and periosteal mesenchymal stem cells in rabbit: radiographical and histopathological evaluations

The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of platelet growth factors and periosteal mesenchymal stem cells on bone healing process, radiographically. Forty male White New Zealand rabbits in five equal groups were used in this study. A 2 mm full thickness bone defect was made in left radial bone of each animal. In group A (control) the defect was left with no medical intervention. I...

Probable Limitations of Osteoblasts Isolation from the Periosteum and Alveolar Bone in a Dog Model

Background & Objective: Bone defects in jaws create major problems for oral and maxillofacial surgery. To overcome the limitations of Autografts tissue engineering uses autogenus cells and synthetic scaffolds. Type of cells or cell sources have an important effect on the construction which is produced. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and probable limitations of osteoblast...
